Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced BSL interpreter to join our team at Queen Alexandra College. As an integral member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring that d/Deaf learners have equal access to education.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and flexible individual to work with students who require British Sign Language (BSL) interpreting services. You will be responsible for providing high-quality interpreting services to enable d/Deaf learners to participate fully in their educational program.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • To provide accurate and effective interpreting services for d/Deaf learners in various settings, including classrooms, extracurricular activities, and meetings.
  • To work collaboratively with teachers, tutors, and other support staff to ensure seamless communication and facilitate inclusive learning environments.
  • To develop and maintain strong relationships with d/Deaf learners, promoting social integration and fostering a sense of belonging within the college community.
  • To assist with administrative tasks, such as record-keeping and reporting, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data protection policies.
  • To contribute to the development of teaching and learning strategies that cater to the diverse needs of d/Deaf learners.
  • To attend regular meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • A minimum of BSL Level 6 qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with d/Deaf learners, staff, and parents/guardians.
  • A strong understanding of deaf culture, British Sign Language, and deaf education principles.
  • Experience working with children and young adults with special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, handle sensitive information, and adhere to data protection policies.
