Job Description

At Polytechnicpositions, we are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our research team in the field of materials science and acoustics. Our vision is to develop a new class of hybrid metamaterials that can reshape and transform acoustic modes, creating novel boundary conditions that give rise to unusual properties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new additively manufactured acoustic metal materials for a range of applications.
  • Develop the theory to allow design of new devices to be made, while constructing instrumentation to allow the performance of the devices to be measured.
  • Conduct hands-on experiments and collaborate with the team to achieve project goals.
  • Produce high-quality publications and present research findings at conferences.

Requirements:

  • 1 honours undergraduate or master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or similar.
  • Enthusiasm for hands-on experiments and coding abilities in any language (e.g. Python or MATLAB or C/C++).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team across disciplines.

What We Offer:

  • A chance to learn new skills in optics, ultrasonics, instrumentation, and coding.
  • The opportunity to work in a supportive, inclusive, and caring community.
  • Travel opportunities to attend conferences and present research findings.
