PhD Researcher in Polymer Impact Response

Nottingham, Nottingham, United Kingdom University of Nottingham Full time

This PhD research project focuses on the failure of amorphous polymers under impact, with a specific emphasis on understanding the material's response to dynamic loading. The successful candidate will work closely with our research partners at the University of Oxford to develop new material models that can be used in computer simulations of ballistic events.

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our research team in Nottingham. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials science or a related field, with excellent knowledge of finite element codes and programming skills. Experience with Abaqus and Matlab is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a collaborative research project, developing new material models and understanding the effects of processing history on the failure of polymers under impact. This project has significant potential for impact in various fields, including impact protection, consumer safety, and military applications.

To be eligible for this studentship, applicants must be UK residents and have a good honours degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science. Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English are also essential.

Applicants are encouraged to make informal enquiries and send a copy of their covering letter, CV, and academic transcripts to Dr Davide De Focatiis for further information.
