PhD Researcher: Multi-material Inkjet Printing for Functional Structures and Electronics

PhD Research Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the University of Nottingham's Centre for Additive Manufacturing (CfAM). The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Richard Hague, Professor Chris Tuck, and Dr. Geoffrey Rivers to develop new materials, methods, and designs for multi-material inkjet 3D printing.
Project Overview
The PhD project will focus on leveraging the capabilities of multi-material inkjet printing to create functional structures and electronics. The researcher will develop control over the bonding at interfaces between materials and layers, achieving new engineering solutions only possible through multi-material additive manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new materials and methods for multi-material inkjet 3D printing
- Design and optimize 3D printing processes for functional structures and electronics
- Characterize and test the properties of printed materials and structures
- Collaborate with the research team to advance the state-of-the-art in multi-material inkjet printing
Requirements
- Master's degree in a relevant field (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physical Sciences)
- Strong background in materials sciences and/or digital design
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Eligibility
- Due to funding restrictions, the position is only available for UK candidates
- Candidates must possess or expect to obtain a 2:1 or first-class degree in a relevant field
