About this role

We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic individual to join our team as a Peer Supporter. As a Peer Supporter, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals who are experiencing mental distress, drawing on your own experiences to provide guidance and support.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one planned sessions to help individuals focus on their strengths, set goals, and develop action plans.
  • Facilitate group peer support sessions to promote a sense of community and connection among individuals.
  • Develop and facilitate peer support groups and self-management groups to empower individuals to take control of their mental health.
  • Identify local services and activities that may be beneficial to individuals, and provide support in accessing these resources.
  • Support individuals in preparing to move on from our service, and provide emotional and practical support as needed.
  • Collaborate with other peers and staff to develop and improve our peer support services.
Requirements
  • Personal experience of mental distress and/or using mental health services, past or present.
  • Ability to share personal experiences of mental distress and self-management strategies as/when appropriate.
  • Passion for empowering individuals experiencing mental distress, peer support, and service user leadership.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with individuals in a respectful and non-judgmental manner.
  • Ability to problem-solve, be proactive, and resourceful in supporting individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
