We are seeking an experienced **Engineering Manager** to join our team at Legal & General. As a key member of our group function, you will play a crucial role in guiding our team of engineers and contributing to the development of high-quality software.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and experience in leading teams. You will be responsible for seeking opportunities to leverage engineering skills and experience across adjacent teams to ensure that we are delivering great outcomes to our customers as effectively as possible.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Develop and implement strategies to improve software quality, security, and reliability.
  • Guide the definition of technical debt management strategies to ensure that our systems are secure, resilient, and reliable.
  • Partner with the Developer Community to define software development standards that meet security, compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Provide line management and professional guidance to a team of engineers, helping them navigate the business and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Coach the team to develop their own long-term goals and objectives around software engineering quality, safety, and security.

**Requirements:**

  • Technology-focused degree-level qualifications are desirable.
  • Experience is of principle importance to this role.
  • Advanced understanding of software testing is essential.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and associated release strategies is essential.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies, such as Scrum and Kanban, is essential.
  • Knowledge of web security is preferable.
  • Experience working as a technical contributor within a development team is essential.
  • Experience of participating and providing actionable feedback in effective code reviews is essential.
  • Experience of contributing to maintainable software features is essential.
  • Experience of analysing, debugging, and solving difficult problems is essential.
  • Experience of guiding, coaching, and mentoring colleagues is essential.
  • Experience of breaking down complex requirements into achievable solutions is essential.
  • Experience of managing technical individuals or whole teams is essential.
