Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Family Services Specialist II to join our team. As a key member of our social services department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized service plans for clients in need of support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and apply laws, policies, and regulations related to human services program areas.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and administer specific programs as assigned.
  • Coordinate services within specific areas of responsibility.
  • Interview and assess client needs, including education, skill levels, abilities, interests, and support systems.
  • Inform clients of related service programs, rules, and regulations, and their right to participate.
  • Present cases to determine appropriate services and write/implement service plans.
  • Provide case management services to monitor compliance.
  • Manage program waiting lists.
  • Track expenditures, prepare, and submit budget estimates, and ensure payment for services.
  • Complete necessary federal, state, and local planning and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with other agencies and participate in multi-disciplinary and interagency teams providing services to clients.
  • Conduct overall monitoring of programs in specific areas of responsibility.
  • Serve as a resource to clients and the community in areas of expertise.
  • Provide after-hours on-call coverage and respond to emergencies in child/adult protective services and/or foster care.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area.
  • Experience in public social work, working with adults and families, and demonstrated ability to develop and implement service plans.
  • Experience working with community professionals, such as physicians, mental health professionals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and home health care agencies to assist adults and families in resolving problems and making referrals for services.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and associated software, including Microsoft Word.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Adult Services/Adult Protective Services conducting investigations of abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation.
  • Completion of required state of Virginia mandates adult services/adult protective services training.
  • Possession of a BSW or MSW degree.
  • Experience utilizing at least two of the following programs: ASAPS/PeerPlace/EPAS/SPIDeR.
Special Requirements
  • Applicants will be subject to a Criminal History Background search, Central Registry search, DMV/driving record check, and pre-employment drug/alcohol screen.
  • The investigation may include fingerprint checks, employment verification/references & credit checks (relevant to employment), and other checks requested by the hiring authority.
  • All offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory results of the required checks and screenings.
  • Employee must be willing to work in the community emergency shelter in the event of a natural disaster or emergency.
  • Employee must be willing to provide after-hours on-call services for CPS, APS, and FC.
