Position Overview: This role represents the advanced level in Family Services, encompassing responsibilities such as investigating instances of child/adult maltreatment, managing placements, overseeing guardianships, facilitating emergency protective orders, and coordinating adoptions. The position also entails providing testimony in judicial proceedings and arranging placements for children in foster or adoptive homes. Furthermore, the consultant engages in program development and outreach initiatives in domains such as Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, Foster Care, and Adoption Services.
Key Distinction: The Senior Family Services Consultant is differentiated from the Family Services Consultant IV by the absence of responsibilities related to leading teams or serving as an expert resource.
*This position emphasizes specialization in Child Protective Services (CPS) program areas.
Core Responsibilities (Illustrative Only):
- Oversees, coordinates, and administers designated programs
- Facilitates services within a defined area of responsibility
- Develops service plans and presents cases for appropriate service delivery
- Monitors expenditures and prepares budget forecasts
- Interprets relevant laws, policies, and regulations
- Completes necessary planning and reporting obligations
- Manages program waiting lists
- Provides comprehensive case management services
- Trains foster caregivers and submits progress documentation
- Connects families with treatment resources
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge: In-depth understanding of social work principles, human behavior, legal frameworks, and investigative methodologies.
Skills: Competent in operating personal computers and utilizing motor vehicles.
Abilities: Proven ability to communicate effectively, analyze case details, and foster productive relationships.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a Human Services discipline or equivalent professional experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field
- At least two years of relevant professional experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- BSW/MSW/State of Virginia Social Worker license
- Experience in CPS or In-Home Services
- Experience collaborating with diverse community partners
