About the Role

As a Permit Officer - Grade 4 with the Environment Agency, you will play a key role in protecting the environment by assessing applications for environmental permits and licenses. You will work with a team of permitting officers to assess a caseload of applications, develop relationships with partners, and support key functions including flooding and environmental response.

This is a varied and challenging role that requires excellent communication skills, technical competence, and the ability to make informed decisions. You will be expected to work independently on complex permits and coach and mentor junior staff members.

  • Experience in coaching and supporting others through technical challenges
  • Ability to manage your own time and workload and meet performance targets related to you and your team
  • Ability to make and justify informed, timely decisions
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with customers
  • Great IT skills including experience of working with and analysing data, managing information, and using tools like Word, Excel, and specialist digital tools relevant to your job
