Nurse Specialist

JOB SUMMARY
To provide high-quality nursing care for children and young people with palliative care needs, working collaboratively with the Integrated Care Team.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide expert clinical care to children and young people with complex needs, ensuring a holistic approach that meets their physical, emotional, and social needs.
- Develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide evidence-based nursing care, staying up-to-date with the latest research and best practices.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care delivery, communicating effectively with colleagues, families, and other stakeholders.
- Mentor and educate junior staff and students, sharing expertise and experience to enhance their knowledge and skills.
- Contribute to the development of clinical policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring they are aligned with best practices and reflect the needs of children and young people.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and contributing to the development of solutions.
- Act as an advocate for children and young people, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
- Work with the Nurse Practice Educator to deliver training and development opportunities, enhancing the knowledge and skills of colleagues.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of education and training programs, ensuring they are tailored to the needs of children and young people.
Professional Requirements
- Registered Nurse (Child/Adult/LD)
- Experience of working in a paediatric setting, preferably in a palliative care environment
- Ability to teach clinical skills to parents/care staff
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Self-motivated and able to work flexibly
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with children and young people with complex needs
- Understanding of infection control procedures and personal health and safety responsibilities
- Ability to contribute to the development of clinical policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Understanding of equality and diversity within the workforce
- Able to work unsocial hours as required
Desirable Requirements
- Experience of working with children and young people with complex needs, including those with life-limiting, life-threatening, and end-of-life care needs
- Technical paediatric nursing skills, such as care of enteral feeding tubes, tracheostomies, and emergency medication for seizures
- IV competent
- Experience of teaching clinical skills to parents/care staff
- Understanding of a range of paediatric conditions, including life-limiting, life-threatening, and end-of-life care needs
- Access to a vehicle and a clean driving license
