Ship's Engineer Assistant Manager

\rA Ship's 1st Assistant Engineer position is available at Oregon State University's Ship Operations unit within the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. The successful candidate will assist the Chief Engineer in safely operating OSU operated research vessel machinery, mechanical, and electrical systems.
The estimated salary for this role is $95,000 - $125,000 per year, depending on experience, with opportunities for overtime pay. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
This is a full-time, hourly position with variable shift schedules and potential for weekend and holiday work. Must be able to pass a drug test and obtain a US Coast Guard Designated Duty Engineer license (4000 HP or better).
A three-year working experience on research vessels and ability to speak, read, and write English are highly desired.
Detailed job responsibilities:
- Maintenance, repair, and overhaul of ship's machinery: hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, and ballast systems; air conditioning; refrigeration; fresh water and saltwater firefighting system; and winches, hoists, blocks, boats/motors, etc.
- Assist in change-out of equipment and layout/installation of new equipment using CMMS.
- Inventory records maintenance, supplies and spare parts ordering, and fueling/watering the vessel.
- Installation and at-sea repair of mechanical and electrical scientific equipment as requested.
