Are you a seasoned engineering professional looking for a new challenge? Oregon State University's Ship Operations unit is seeking a Chief Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the machinery, mechanical, and electrical systems on our Research Vessel (R/V) Taani.

Job Summary:

  • Organize and direct the Engine Department to provide safe, efficient, and economical operation of the ship's systems.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of fuel, lube oil, freshwater repair parts, and maintenance materials on board.
  • Schedule engineering watches and assign daily duties to Engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Repair or replace broken parts using hand tools, precision tools, arc and gas welders, and lathes.
  • Assist in repair of scientific equipment as requested and within the capability of department personnel.

Requirements:

  • Current Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) endorsements.
  • Ability to obtain a passport.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Meet Coast Guard drug testing requirements.
  • Solid understanding of basic computer programs including Microsoft Office products.
