Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Maritime Operations Specialist to join our team at Oregon State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer in the safe and efficient operation of research vessel machinery, mechanical, and electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance, repair, and overhaul of ship's machinery: hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, and ballast systems; air conditioning; refrigeration; fresh water and saltwater firefighting system; and winches, hoists, blocks, boats/motors, etc.
  • Updates computerized maintenance software and other logs/records as needed upon overhaul or repair of ship's machinery and equipment.
  • Maintains stocks of supplies and spare parts for ship's machinery, equipment, piping, and mechanical systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Assists in installation and at-sea repair of mechanical and electrical scientific equipment as requested.
  • Participates in shipboard drills and emergency training, including training ashore.

Requirements:
  • STCW endorsements as appropriate for the position.
  • Ability to obtain a passport.
  • Meet Coast Guard drug testing requirements.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Ability to weld and cut metal using arc and gas processes.
  • K-POS DP Maintenance Training.

Working Conditions:The employee in this position is required to work on board OSU operated research vessels at sea on research cruises that may last from one day to three weeks or more before returning to port, in ocean and weather conditions which are highly variable.

Estimated Salary:$65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
