Marine Machinery Operations Manager

Oregon State University seeks a highly skilled Ship's 1st Assistant Engineer to join its Ship Operations team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of research vessel machinery, mechanical, and electrical systems.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work on a variety of projects and contribute to the success of the university.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain, repair, and overhaul shipboard systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, and ballast systems.
- Manage inventory and maintain stocks of supplies and spare parts.
- Assist in fueling and watering the vessel and keep records of consumption for the Chief Engineer.
- Install and repair scientific equipment at sea.
- Must possess a US Coast Guard Designated Duty Engineer license 4000 HP or better.
- Hold STCW endorsements as appropriate for the position.
- Be able to obtain a passport.
- Meet Coast Guard drug testing requirements.
- Speak, read, and write English fluently.
The successful candidate will work on board OSU operated research vessels at sea, often for extended periods.
Shift and/or work assignment may change based on operational needs.
