Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Depot Manager to lead and optimize the operations at our depot and transfer station in Middlesbrough. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and operator licenses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership: Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the depot, ensuring efficient and effective management of resources.
  • Team Management: Lead and motivate a team of approximately 40 staff members, providing guidance and support to ensure they meet their performance targets.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and operator licenses, minimizing the risk of accidents and environmental incidents.
  • Customer Service: Foster strong relationships with customers, ensuring they receive exceptional service and value for money.
  • Performance Management: Set clear objectives for operational staff, monitor performance regularly, and take corrective action as needed to achieve targets.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in operational productivity and service quality, identifying opportunities for cost savings and process enhancements.
  • Financial Management: Oversee the depot's profit and loss budget, ensuring consistent year-on-year growth and making recommendations for improvements.
Requirements
  • Proven Experience: Solid background as an Operations/Depot/General Manager or in a similar high-responsibility role within services or logistics.
  • CPC Qualification: Essential for managing compliance and operational standards.
  • COTC Qualification: Desirable but not essential; it's a bonus that would enhance your suitability for the role.
  • Commercial Acumen: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, commercially driven, and time-sensitive environment.
  • Leadership in Complex Settings: Experience in people management and health & safety within a unionized, multi-shift environment.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Up-to-date understanding of current and upcoming environmental and health & safety regulations.
  • Local Insight: Familiarity with the local area for effective operations.
  • KPI Focused: Demonstrated ability to meet clearly defined KPIs.
  • Continuous Improvement: A proven track record of driving continuous improvement in an operational setting.
  • Strong Communication: Ability to communicate persuasively, plan meticulously, and collaborate effectively.
