Waste Management Operative

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Waste Management Operative at James Cook University Hospital. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our hospital's portering services.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide a comprehensive and efficient portering service, ensuring patient care and customer service are at the forefront of service provision.
  • Operate tow tractors, collect and transport goods and waste, and support the provision of adequate supplies of fluids to wards.
  • Collect and transfer refuse, including clinical refuse and special waste, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Support the Porter Patient Ambassador to ensure full service follows site ISO regulations and quality and environmental systems.
  • Undertake duties as identified by the Porter Patient Ambassador and management, and achieve performance targets to agreed standards.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate records in line with service delivery, and ensure safe working practices are always maintained.
  • Advise the Porter Team Leader of any issues associated with the back of house portering services, and ensure all portering equipment is in a clean and hygienic condition.
  • Report any potential health and safety issues or improvements, and report any defects or issues with equipment.

Requirements:

  • This is a physical role, requiring mobility and manual handling to lift, carry, and operate cleaning machinery.
  • NVQ or equivalent qualification, and ability to read, write, and converse clearly in English.
  • Basic awareness of health and safety working practices, and previous experience working within a hospital or service environment.
  • Customer service skills, including clear verbal communication, and understanding of the importance of patient care, infection control, and safety.
  • IT literacy to support innovation.
