Job Description

As a key member of our Learning and Development team, you will be responsible for designing and delivering high-quality training programs for our staff, focusing on essential clinical skills in a specialist mental health context.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage allocated projects to deliver high-quality training programs that meet the needs of our workforce.
  • Design and deliver mandatory training relating to sexual safety and therapeutic observations.
  • Scope and implement plans for the delivery of training and development to all relevant staff, ensuring that they have the necessary skills to provide excellent patient care.
  • Identify training needs of staff and lead on the design and delivery of training programs, using internal and external resources, to meet identified needs within budget and timescale.
  • Review and update existing training programs to ensure they continue to meet the needs of our services.
  • Implement national and organisational clinical competencies, ensuring that both modern design and delivery models are used, and that impact on practice post-delivery can be evidenced.
  • Maintain an overview of the use of technology-enhanced learning tools in relevant training programs and lead on the maintenance of course content presented in a virtual learning environment.
  • Ensure the organisation of training venues and logistics to achieve efficient training attendance and delivery.
  • Lead the ongoing development and management of quality assurance of training for essential clinical skills in a specialist mental health context.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to managers, clinical leads, and other stakeholders on meeting the training needs of staff in the context of evolving service delivery.
  • Collaborate and negotiate with Service Managers and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery, methodology, and implementation of the training program meet service needs.
  • Ensure the availability of specialist learning and development advice, support, and consultation to the Trust.
  • Prepare training activity reports and presentations for strategic management groups and stakeholders as required.
  • Maintain an overview of current system-wide service delivery, workforce needs, and training provision, and identify its scope, coverage, effectiveness, and relationship with CPFT training strategy.
  • Represent the Trust in local and national network events to maintain and develop expert-level knowledge in this specialty.
  • Develop and maintain the clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide clinically effective, holistic, evidence-based training.
  • Implement and review competency frameworks within the subject field.
  • Work collaboratively and in partnership with HR colleagues, CPFT managers, CPFT staff, Professional Leads, including medical, partner universities, the Local Authorities, and Health Education East of England to deliver an integrated multi-disciplinary education offering and collaborative learning.
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education or similar, or willingness to work towards.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Post graduate qualification in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrable experience in risk assessment and management.
  • Post registration experience across a range of healthcare settings, including both inpatient and community.
  • Creating and applying policies and procedures to improve practice.
Requirements
  • Proficient in mental health clinical skills, including assessing and managing clinical risk.
  • Able to train and coach others in essential mental health clinical skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
Desirable Criteria
  • Proficient in report writing and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of clinical governance practice and risk management.
  • Knowledge of current clinical skills needs in specialist mental health practice.
  • Knowledge of training and development theory and methods.
Essential Criteria
  • Ability to travel independently across the CPFT area.
Desirable Criteria
  • Current driving license, car owner/access to car.
