Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Secretary to join our dynamic Ophthalmology department at Northampton General Hospital.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive administrative support to our consultant-led team, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and contributing to the delivery of excellent patient care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional secretarial and administrative support to consultants and medical staff, including prioritizing workload, managing diaries, and coordinating meetings.
  • Manage patient records, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to data protection guidelines.
  • Accurately type audio-based dictations, clinical letters, and reports, ensuring timely dissemination of information.
  • Coordinate theatre lists, arrange appointments, and liaise with patients, relatives, and other professionals as required.
  • Develop and maintain office protocols, ensuring up-to-date procedures and effective working practices.
  • Participate in audits, provide training to new staff, and maintain up-to-date personal awareness of Trust-wide issues and directives.
Requirements
  • GCSE English and Maths
  • Accurate keyboard skills to RSA 2 or equivalent
  • Experience of prioritizing own work, working in an administration-based role, and meeting deadlines and targets
  • Knowledge of CAMIS and waiting list management (desirable)
  • Previous secretarial experience (desirable)
