Medical Secretary

We are seeking an experienced Medical Secretary to join our Ophthalmology department at Northampton General Hospital. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive administrative support to our consultants and medical staff, ensuring the smooth operation of our services.
Main Responsibilities- Provide secretarial support to consultants and medical staff, including prioritizing workloads and managing diaries.
- Receive and respond to telephone calls and other enquiries from key contacts, resolving problems and queries efficiently.
- Book theatre lists and liaise with patients and pre-operative teams, maintaining accurate records and databases.
- Deal with patients, relatives, and other professionals, resolving problems and queries in a professional and courteous manner.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Accurately type audio-based dictation, clinical letters, discharge summaries, and reports, ensuring timely dissemination of information.
- Provide a general administrative service, including photocopying, filing, faxing, and other office routines.
- Compile and review office protocols, modifying working practices as necessary to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.

Person Specification- GCSE English and Maths
- Accurate keyboard skills to RSA 2 or equivalent
- Experience of prioritizing own work, working in an administration-based role, and meeting deadlines and targets
- Desirable: knowledge of CAMIS and waiting list management, previous secretarial experience
