Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Autism Support Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our support staff, you will work closely with students on the autism spectrum, providing individualized support and promoting their independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Individualized Support: Work closely with students to develop personalized support plans, tailored to their unique needs and abilities.
  • Communication Support: Assist students in developing effective communication skills, using a range of strategies and techniques to promote expression and understanding.
  • Social Support: Help students navigate social interactions, build relationships, and develop social skills, including empathy and self-awareness.
  • Transition Support: Provide support during transitions, helping students to manage change and reduce anxiety.
  • Sensory Support: Create a sensory-friendly environment, minimizing sensory overload and promoting comfort and well-being.
  • Behavioural Support: Implement evidence-based strategies to manage behaviour, promoting a calm and supportive atmosphere.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement personalized learning plans.

Requirements

  • Empathy and Patience: Demonstrate a high level of empathy and patience when working with students.
  • Understanding of Autism: Have a thorough understanding of autism spectrum differences and their impact on students.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Be flexible and adaptable in your approach, responding to the changing needs of students.
