Job Summary

The Employee Relations Case Advisor will provide expert HR advice and support to employees and managers, serving as the first point of contact for all general HR inquiries.

This role requires the ability to identify, action, and follow up on complex queries, utilizing expertise, knowledge, and analysis to resolve problems and escalate to senior advisors when necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and attend sickness review meetings, advising and supporting line managers on short-term and long-term absence cases.
  • Support and manage cases related to fixed-term contracts, professional registrations, and flexible working requests across all staff groups.
  • Communicate complex information and processes, including redeployment, ill health retirement, and procedure for stage 3 sickness hearings, to managers and employees.
  • Interpret and advise managers on organization policies to ensure compliance, while offering general HR advice to all staff.
  • Take a leading HR role on Flexible Working applications and appeals, supporting managers to review the impacts on individuals and the service.
  • Lead on cases where an individual's professional registration has expired, preventing them from legally working in their role.
  • Produce and support the collation of packs for formal sickness and Flexible Working Hearings, distributing them to the panel, management, and staff in a timely manner.
  • Support with taking and minutes of formal Employee Relations Meetings and Hearings, including sickness, disciplinary, grievance, and capability cases.
  • Update ESR case management systems and trackers to ensure accurate reporting and accessibility of ER cases.
  • Provide general advice to managers and staff on Agenda for Change terms and conditions of service and organization employment policies and procedures.
  • Analyze complex data, identifying trends and patterns to inform senior leaders and drive improvements.
Requirements
  • Educated to GCSE Level, including Maths and English.
  • NVQ Level 5 or equivalent professional experience.
  • CIPD Level 5 or working towards.
  • Experience in office administration, including producing confidential documents and processes related to employment.
  • Able to take and transcribe notes/minutes of formal meetings.
  • Experienced in handling difficult or sensitive situations.
  • Skilled in using HR or Payroll systems and MS Office applications to an intermediate level.
  • Able to deal with routine and complex enquiries.
  • Experienced in supporting HR cases or managing queries in a complex, unionized organization.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to check complex documents.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic team player.
  • Able to act on own initiative.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to work.
