Clinical Governance and Patient Safety Lead

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Governance and Patient Safety Lead to join our team at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our clinical board, you will be responsible for promoting a culture of openness, transparency, and collaboration across all services.

Your primary focus will be on patient safety, working closely with the Medical Quality and Safety Lead, Head of Nursing, and other stakeholders to drive continuous improvement. You will facilitate learning and share best practices across the board, contributing to trust-wide learning forums.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing a robust patient safety and clinical governance framework
  • Leading incident reporting and investigation, identifying system issues, and implementing corrective actions
  • Collaborating with quality and safety leads, head of nursing, and matrons to champion patient safety initiatives
  • Facilitating learning and continual improvement in response to concerns raised, incidents, and complaints

Person Specification
  • Degree-level qualification and evidence of CPD
  • Post-graduate qualification to Masters level or significant experience in clinical practice, involvement in developing practice, clinical risk management, and/or clinical audit/QI
  • Qualification or CPD relevant to patient safety/clinical governance/quality improvement
Knowledge and Experience
  • Proven experience in a clinical leadership role, including involvement in incident reporting and investigation
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical governance frameworks, QI methodologies, and patient safety principles
  • Evidence of continuous professional and personal development
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and lead data-driven improvement initiatives
