Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Governance, Risk and Safety Lead to join our team at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our clinical governance and risk management team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the delivery of safe and high-quality care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the clinical board and governance leads to deliver the quality and safety strategy
  • Network across the Trust and with key stakeholders to drive patient safety initiatives and ensure continuous improvement
  • Assist in coordinating the agenda and presenting on governance issues, including incidents and complaints, as a member of the Quality Oversight Group (QOG)
  • Review moderate and above incidents and work with stakeholders to provide guidance on investigation, duty of candour, completion, and presentation of rapid reviews
  • Attend board governance meetings and share information on key metrics to measure clinical effectiveness and outcomes
  • Disseminate lessons learnt and changes to practice at the response action review meeting, clinical risk group, and patient safety forum
  • Develop and implement a cross-cutting clinical effectiveness and QA programme to monitor and enhance the quality of care provided across the board
  • Work with services to ensure the use of appropriate key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure clinical effectiveness and outcomes, patient experiences, and quality and safety
  • Support the development of a robust patient safety and clinical governance framework within the board
  • Collaborate with Quality and Safety leads, Head of Nursing, and Matrons to champion patient safety initiatives and drive continuous improvement
Requirements
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills across the Trust support services, patient experience department, clinical boards, and the clinical governance and risk department
  • Ability to analyze information and data, and update trackers and action logs
  • Report writing skills and experience in clinical risk management and patient safety
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, clinical risk management, and patient safety principles and practices
  • Experience in working with stakeholders to drive quality improvement initiatives
