Job Description

The University of Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to work on a new project focused on the demographic changes in England and Wales during the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth-century.

About the Role:

  • Conduct archival research in national and local archives, record offices, and collect community-based data from primary sources.
  • Analyze historical censuses of Great Britain, labor markets, child and female employment, education provision, poor relief, and public health measures.
  • Collaborate with Prof S. R. S Szreter and Prof K. Schürer on the project, working closely with a related part-time position in the Department of Geography.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate research experience in sourcing, handling, and processing historical sources, preferably from the second half of the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries.
  • A PhD in History or related social science/humanities subject.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Location: The Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge.
