Leading Nursing and Allied Health Professional Workforce as Chief Nurse Officer

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Chief Nursing Officer to lead its nursing and allied health professional workforce.

This critical leadership role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient care across all services, including wards, emergency departments, paediatrics, and maternity units.

The successful candidate will be expected to continue the strong focus on quality and safety while bringing fresh ideas and leadership to the role.

As a voting member of the Trust Board, the Chief Nursing Officer will share corporate responsibility for strategic planning, corporate policy making, and the delivery of corporate objectives and operational performance.

The post holder will provide professional and clinical leadership to all nursing and midwifery, allied health professionals, and healthcare scientific staff within the Trust.

Fostering a culture that values continuing professional development and strives for excellence in all aspects of the delivery of patient care.

The estimated salary for this position is around £90,000 - £120,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clear leadership to improve patient experience, clinical outcomes, quality of care, and safety of patients
  • Developing a culture of high-quality patient care, listening to understand, and changing as a result informed by best practice in the health and commercial sectors
  • Acting as the Place lead for Barking and Dagenham, driving forward strategic initiatives, fostering partnerships, and ensuring that the health and well-being priorities of Barking and Dagenham residents are reflected in the Trust's services
  • Fulfilling statutory responsibilities as a Trust Board member and ensuring that the Trust adheres to appropriate policy and practice where required in the management of nursing, midwifery, and allied healthcare professionals

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of operating at Board level within a Healthcare/NHS setting, including within an acute Trust.

Experience in and expertise in managing complex change processes while maintaining sustained improvement in performance is also essential.

The post requires a Registered Nurse with a Master's degree or equivalent experience, evidence of ongoing continuous professional development, and a leadership qualification or recognised program.
