Job Title: Import Clerk

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Import Clerk to join our team at a well-established freight forwarding company. As an Import Clerk, you will be responsible for the movement of goods from another country, ensuring timely transit and delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sea freight quoting and customs clearance declaration submission
  • Liaising with overseas offices, partners, or agents to ensure efficient transfer of goods
  • Responsible for arranging and completing all associated paperwork, including documentation of goods and compliance with import quotas, tariffs, trade agreements, and HM Revenue and Customs regulations
  • Costing jobs and ensuring maximum profitability for the organization
  • Checking goods in as they arrive against paperwork to ensure all goods ordered are accounted for
  • Establishing contacts and relationships with HM Customs to ensure efficient transfer of goods through the legal process
  • Managing deadlines and sometimes difficult situations, requiring negotiation to meet timescales
Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years working in an import department within freight forwarding
  • Experience with imports start to finish, including customs entries and sea freight quotes
  • Knowledge of Chief (CDS) and other relevant systems, such as Boxtop and Descartes
  • Car license due to location
  • Basic DBS certificate
