About the Role
As a Control Room Operator at Colas Rail, you will be responsible for managing the real-time running of Colas Rail Freight services, escalating and managing accidents and incidents, and performing other Control Room duties in a safety-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a safe, efficient, and optimal train plan for all Colas customers during both normal train running and disruptive events.
- Ensure clear communication in the correct timescales to facilitate the safe and efficient operation/performance of the Colas fleet.
- Manage real-time monitoring of all Colas Freight services.
- Proactively manage the reporting, recording, and escalation of any Incidents/accidents/environmental occurrences in a professional and efficient manner, informing the appropriate parties in the correct timescales in accordance with Company procedures.
- Proactively manage all aspects of Colas Rail Fleet, including staff and commercial issues, and work towards successful completion of production work on their shift.
- Assist in ensuring that all work undertaken is recorded, logged, and reported to the correct management personnel in detail and to an appropriate standard.
- Assist in the management of all personnel on their shift in terms of all short-term changes, sickness, and exceedances.
- Produce performance reports that include detailed delay attribution information to the requirements of the Business.
- When required, develop and implement train service recovery plans for failed services.
- Deliver effective communication in relation to all aspects of the daily train plan during normal and disrupted operations.
- Assist in the management of Safety, Accidents/Incidents/Environmental issues.
- Liaise with the maintenance department on all issues affecting locomotive performance on operational shifts.
- Monitor all staff booked on for duty and identify those who have failed to book on and off.
- Diligently log fuel levels and locations of the Locomotive fleet, proactively ensuring locomotives are properly maintained.
- Receive information and react as an escalation centre for accidents and incidents on Colas Project sites.
- Assist in the management of the standards inside the control room to facilitate efficient and professional operation.
- Ensure all train movements are managed to eradicate any eventuality of subsequent costs for third-party train delays.
