Railway Operations Manager

Colas Rail UK is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Shift Operations Controller to join their team. As a Shift Operations Controller, you will be responsible for the safety, operation, and performance of the Colas Fleet on all shifts.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure clear communication in the correct timescales to facilitate the safe and efficient operation/performance of the Colas fleet.
- Proactively manage the reporting, recording, and escalation of any Incidents/Accidents/Environmental occurrences in a professional and efficient manner, informing the appropriate parties in the correct timescales in accordance with Company procedures.
- Proactively manage all aspects of Colas Rail Fleet, including staff and commercial issues, and work towards successful completion of production work on their shift.
- Assist in ensuring that all work undertaken is recorded, logged, and reported to the correct management personnel in detail and to an appropriate standard.
- Assist in the management of all personnel on their shift in terms of all short-term changes, sickness, and exceedances.
- Produce shift reports that include detailed maintenance and production information to the requirements of the Business.
- Assist in the management of Safety, Accidents/Incidents/Environmental issues, production output, and quality for all Rail Services equipment and operators.
- Liaise with the maintenance department on all issues affecting machine performance on operational shifts.
- Monitor all staff booked on for duty and identify those who have failed to book on and off.
- Log fuel levels and working directions of the OTM fleet diligently.
- Produce a clear and concise written handover of outstanding events to the next shift.
- Assist in the response to any SPAD/Incidents involving manpower or OTM when on duty or available to attend.
- Receive information and react as an escalation centre for accidents and incidents on Colas Project sites.
- Assist in the management of the standards inside the control room to facilitate efficient and professional operation.
- Ensure all machine/locos and train movements are managed to eradicate any eventuality of subsequent costs for third-party train delays.
- Have thorough knowledge of commercial implications and proactively manage commercial issues on shift.
- Be proactive in checking resource for each transit and working shift to ensure no anomalies.
- Understand the reporting and escalating lines between the different divisions and report appropriately.
- Escalate as appropriate any issue which either through company procedure demands so or that falls outside of the Control Room Managers competency or authority.
- Produce high-quality management reports containing relevant information.
- Attend all required training for the role and continuing training throughout their employment.
- Assist in the sharing of knowledge and the mentoring of any new starters.
