Job Summary:

The Devon County Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Rural Team Manager to join our Management Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading a team of Trading Standards Officers in enforcing trading standards legislation in rural areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and deliver a program of visits to agricultural premises and critical control points, including visits to markets, abattoirs, farms, feed mills, and docks.
  • Manage related project work, such as mental health in farming and future farm resilience, utilizing officer skills and resources from across the service.
  • Deal with complaints and enquiries, allocating these to team members as required.
  • Work closely with business support and innovation teams on project work and networking.
  • Work closely with officers in other teams for support and extra resources.
  • Deal with all relevant team investigations, simple and complex, working closely with regulatory support compliance and investigations teams for support and extra resource if required.
  • Serve FPNs and improvement notices and develop the necessary policies around the issuing of relevant penalties with legal process manager and legal lead officer.
  • Be prepared to support advocacy work of the service.

Requirements:

  • Experience in investigating and enforcing trading standards legislation.
  • Ability to manage a team of trading standards officers.
  • Knowledge of rural matters and farming.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
