About the Team:

We are excited to announce an opening for a Privacy and Commercial Legal Advisor within our expanding legal department. The legal team plays a vital role in facilitating the company's rapid growth and serves as a strategic partner to leadership across various functions. Our collaborative approach ensures that we provide effective solutions that enable the organization to meet ambitious growth objectives while managing associated risks.

About the Role:

This position offers the flexibility to work from our London office or remotely within the United Kingdom. The Privacy and Commercial Legal Advisor will take the lead in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a range of commercial agreements, with a particular emphasis on data privacy considerations and compliance. Additionally, this role will contribute to the development and maintenance of AlphaSense's privacy compliance framework. Reporting to the VP of Legal, the Advisor will collaborate with various departments, including Sales, Marketing, Information Security, Product, and Content, to support AlphaSense's growth initiatives. This position is crucial to our success and will have an immediate impact on our dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and review agreements related to data privacy, including addenda and amendments;
  • Provide guidance on international privacy and data protection regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant laws;
  • Draft and review commercial contracts, offering transactional support across the organization with a strong focus on sales;
  • Assist in the establishment of AlphaSense's global privacy and data protection practices;
  • Stay updated on evolving legal standards and industry guidelines that affect commercial agreements;
  • Contribute to the creation and enhancement of playbooks related to privacy and data protection to streamline legal processes as the company scales;
  • Collaborate effectively in a dynamic environment across various teams and time zones;
  • Provide legal and strategic business insights to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures; and
  • Support the legal team with corporate and general legal matters as required.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified lawyer with admission to practice in the U.K.;
  • At least 4 years of experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial software and technology agreements, with expertise in GDPR and global privacy compliance, either in-house or at a reputable law firm;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in negotiating commercial contracts, including Master Services Agreements, Service Agreements, Statements of Work, Service Level Agreements, and Non-Disclosure Agreements;
  • Strong business acumen and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service, balancing legal risk with business needs;
  • Personable and approachable, with excellent negotiation skills and the ability to advocate for challenging positions with patience;
  • Effective communicator capable of engaging with diverse internal and external stakeholders;
  • Experience with contract management systems, information security, intellectual property, or financial services is advantageous.
