The Organization
The firm oversees a substantial portfolio of both its own and client property investments throughout the UK and Europe - they are in search of a distinguished lead legal advisor to take on this role.

The ideal candidate will join a seasoned team with expertise in investment analysis, property finance, asset management, and banking. The team collaborates closely with external property and banking legal professionals across the UK and Europe to facilitate the firm's property acquisitions, sales, development, leasing, funding, and supplier engagements, as well as to support the firm's lending, underwriting, and litigation activities.

The organization operates fully equipped offices in Europe and London, and while the role is based in London, occasional travel may be necessary.

The Position
You will deliver legal counsel across the organization, acting as the primary legal contact within the UK. Furthermore, you will assess all legal documents, pinpointing and alleviating potential legal risks, managing any property-related disputes that may arise, and drafting standard internal documents. You will coordinate all commercial property transactions with external legal advisors, remaining informed about property legislation to provide proactive and strategic guidance to stakeholders, thereby helping to mitigate risks.

You will also keep abreast of pertinent regulations and legislation specific to the company's London Credit operations, managing the legal services budget, overseeing fee management, and establishing protocols for engaging external legal counsel.

This role necessitates collaboration with internal teams, including property development, property management, and finance departments. Additionally, you will conduct legal due diligence on borrowers and UK properties at all stages, manage litigation related to loan recoveries, and monitor default loans. As a member of both lower and upper-level credit committees, you will play a vital role in key decision-making processes, as well as creating and maintaining a panel of external legal advisors, ensuring they have access to the best legal resources available for their requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of post-qualification experience with a focus on commercial property, property finance, and property investment
  • In-house experience is essential; a secondment or two will be acceptable
