This role is integral to the Expedia Legal and Corporate Affairs team, a globally-focused legal group known for its proactive and collaborative approach. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders in a dynamic and fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver top-tier privacy counsel to internal clients across various departments, including Human Resources, Marketing, Procurement, and both B2C and B2B teams.
  • Evaluate and advise on privacy risks, including conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs).
  • Draft, review, and negotiate privacy-related agreements and contractual obligations with third parties.
  • Maintain and enhance our collection of privacy templates and negotiation guides for the legal team.
  • Ensure compliance with evolving global privacy laws and regulations, particularly concerning cross-border data transfers.
  • Oversee internal governance frameworks, including Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs) and Internal Governance Agreements.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and guides on privacy matters for legal team members and cross-functional partners.
  • Monitor new legislation and enforcement actions to assess their impact on business operations.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of privacy and data protection across various forums.
  • Lead initiatives to create and implement comprehensive privacy training programs throughout the organization.
  • Draft privacy notices, policies, and regulatory submissions for consumers, B2B, and employees.
  • Enhance content on our online Legal Centre and other digital resources.
  • Formulate internal policies and standards related to privacy.
  • Advise on the management of privacy rights within the organization.
  • Integrate Responsible AI policies and practices into daily operations.
  • Assist in responding to security incidents.
  • Provide legal counsel on marketing initiatives.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to continuous professional development. You are a quick learner who thrives in collaborative environments and seeks opportunities to take initiative. You approach legal challenges with innovative and commercially viable solutions while fostering strong partnerships with business and legal colleagues. Additionally:

  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law or possess equivalent relevant experience.
  • You have completed the LPC or an equivalent program and have finished your training contract.
  • You bring 1-2 years of relevant privacy experience as a practicing attorney in a leading law firm or a fast-paced in-house legal setting, preferably with a technology focus.
  • Experience in a global legal department dealing with international privacy issues is advantageous.
  • You have a solid understanding of e-commerce technologies and business models, including location-based services and online advertising, along with knowledge of applicable privacy laws.
  • You can assess and communicate risks in alignment with business objectives.
  • You are capable of managing a diverse range of legal matters with minimal oversight.
  • You can contextualize commercial risks and priorities effectively.
  • You are proficient in utilizing digital tools, such as Confluence and Jira.
  • You have a keen interest in AI and emerging technologies, particularly their intersection with privacy concerns.
  • You have a proven track record of building positive relationships with business clients and legal colleagues.
  • You are skilled in using SharePoint and the Office Suite, including Excel, Confluence, and JIRA.
