Position Overview

Orthopaedic Support Assistant, Band 3 - Fracture Services ( hours a week)

Role Summary

The selected individual will be responsible for assisting patients in the elective orthopaedic and fracture services, reporting directly to the qualified nursing staff who will provide guidance in this role. The individual will perform specific assigned tasks, adhering to the necessary training and competency levels, including patient monitoring, personal hygiene assistance, application of splints and braces, and coordinating patient admissions to wards as needed.

  • Serve as a chaperone for patients attending appointments.
  • Execute specific delegated tasks in line with training and competency, including patient observations, personal hygiene assistance, application of basic splints and braces, plaster cast removal, ECG recording, MRSA screening, venepuncture, and coordinating patient admissions from the clinic.

Job Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively, especially when patient communication is limited.
  • Provide safe care in a dynamic clinical environment, utilizing equipment and resources safely and appropriately across the service.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Input and retrieve patient information from electronic systems, maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Perform specific delegated tasks in accordance with training and competency, including application of basic splints and braces, plaster cast removal, ECG recording, MRSA screening, venepuncture, and coordinating patient admissions from the clinic.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy or GCSE in English and Maths.

Experience

Desirable

  • Experience as a Nursing/Healthcare Assistant.
  • Familiarity with basic nursing and personal care, with the ability to provide fundamental nursing skills.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

  • Practical skills, prioritization, and time management abilities.
  • Active listening skills with patients and team members.
  • A genuine interest in working within the specialty.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
