Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the specialty medicine department for a band 6 nurse to take on the role of deputy manager for the Acute Medicine and Endocrine Ward (C5). You will collaborate with fellow band 6 nurses, providing support to the band 7 ward manager within a well-established nursing team.

The C5 ward comprises 27 beds, catering to both male and female patients. It serves as an acute Endocrine/Diabetic/medical ward located in a state-of-the-art facility, reflecting the latest advancements in healthcare infrastructure.

We invite applications from individuals who possess a valid UK NMC registration. Please note that we are not currently hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses who require sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities

This role is ideal for a proactive individual with strong leadership capabilities to oversee the daily operations of the ward's nursing team. A solid understanding and clinical experience in delivering exceptional patient-centered, evidence-based care is crucial.

The position is suited for a mentor with outstanding communication skills and significant experience at band 5 level, preferably in an acute medical environment.

Candidates must provide evidence of recent professional development and completion of a leadership course, with additional training in Diabetes being advantageous. You will receive support from a ward manager, practice educator, and clinical matron in your role.

Job Duties

- Oversee the development, planning, and coordination of specialized treatment within the ward or department.

- Assess patients, plan, implement, and manage their care.

- Execute specialized nursing procedures.

- Provide expert advice to patients and their families.

- Conduct research and lead clinical audits in the specialized area.

- May be required to supervise a team of nursing and support staff.

Candidate Profile

Experience

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse (level 1) with a degree and substantial post-registration experience (specialist or general, depending on the role's requirements).
  • Experience in supervising junior staff and students, and working towards being a Practice Supervisor or Assessor Supervisor.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with multidisciplinary team members. Demonstrate advanced communication skills to support patients and their families, effectively conveying sensitive information.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to balance team leadership and clinical responsibilities.
  • Significant experience in an acute medical setting.
  • Involvement in clinical audits, including coordination, evaluation, and service development.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to efficiently plan and prioritize a complex and unpredictable caseload.
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, risk management, and its application.
  • Experience in leading meetings.

Desirable

  • Evidence of postgraduate experience and attendance at specialized courses.
  • Proven ability to deliver training sessions to patients and staff.
  • Qualification in Diabetes.
  • Leadership qualification.
  • Experience in change management and implementing service improvements.
