Brighton, Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job Overview

The position of Junior Clinical Fellow in Neurology is primarily ward-based, collaborating with fellow junior doctors in the neurology department. This role involves providing care for in-patients within our specialized 15-bed ward and assisting with operations in the neurology day case unit. Additionally, the role requires participation in the out-of-hours on-call rota for neurosciences, which includes responsibilities for both neurosurgery and neurology.

This position offers invaluable experience in the assessment and treatment of a diverse range of neurological disorders. The post holder will have numerous opportunities to enhance practical skills, particularly in performing lumbar punctures. Furthermore, the role encourages involvement in audits or broader quality improvement initiatives, as well as opportunities to develop teaching and presentation capabilities.

Main Responsibilities

Daily tasks will include conducting morning ward rounds to evaluate all in-patients, followed by ongoing ward duties. Teaching sessions for junior doctors are integrated into consultant-led ward rounds and are scheduled throughout the week.

Responsibilities in the day case unit will involve assessing patients who are undergoing elective treatments such as IVIg, cyclophosphamide, and MS infusions. The junior doctor team will perform elective lumbar punctures on a daily basis.

The post holder will also supervise medical students allocated to the ward, ensuring their clinical activities are guided effectively.

Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm and a strong desire to gain experience in neurology.
