Brighton, Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

This is a remarkable opportunity for full or part-time post-foundation level 2 Doctors (preferably post-IMT) with prior NHS experience to join the Sussex Oncology team and deliver non-surgical oncological care at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking a Clinical Fellow who is either post-F2 or post-IMT and is keen on exploring a career in oncology while gaining experience in leadership and service enhancement roles. This position can be tailored to be full or part-time and is fixed for one year.

The role includes dedicated time to spearhead projects in service enhancement, with a designated Consultant Supervisor and daily oversight from the on-call Specialist Registrar and Consultant.

Prior experience within the NHS is essential, while oncology experience is advantageous but not mandatory as the role is comprehensively supported.

Working hours will span Monday to Friday with an on-call rota, excluding overnight duties. The position is primarily based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital with potential travel to peripheral clinics.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be integrated into outpatient oncology services, acquiring experience in managing oncology patients undergoing specialized treatment and follow-up.

Collaborating with the oncology Specialist Registrars and Advanced Clinical Practitioners, the post holders will conduct clinical reviews for patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies and radiotherapy in both treatment and ambulatory unit settings, with opportunities for telephone triage and follow-up. A comprehensive induction and ongoing support for oncology-specific knowledge will be provided, although much of the role will leverage general medical expertise and skills.

There will also be opportunities to participate in oncology clinics and radiotherapy planning in rotation throughout the year, offering deeper insights into oncology as a specialty.

We hope that by choosing UHSussex, you are embarking on a fulfilling career where you can witness the impact of your contributions and feel valued for your efforts.
