Position Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged within the specialty medicine department for a band 6 nurse to take on the role of deputy manager in the Acute Medicine and Endocrine Ward. In this position, you will collaborate with fellow band 6 nurses, providing support to the band 7 ward manager within a well-established nursing team.

The C5 ward consists of 27 beds, catering to both male and female patients. It is an acute Endocrine/Diabetic/medical ward located in a state-of-the-art facility, representing the forefront of modern healthcare.

We invite applications from individuals with a valid UK NMC registration. Please note that we are not currently hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses who require sponsorship.

Main Responsibilities

This role is ideal for a proactive individual with strong leadership capabilities to oversee the daily operations of the nursing team. Relevant expertise and clinical experience in delivering exceptional patient-centered, evidence-based care are crucial.

The position would benefit from a mentor with outstanding communication skills and substantial experience at the band 5 level, ideally within an acute medical environment.

Applicants should provide evidence of recent professional development and completion of a leadership course, along with a qualification in Diabetes being advantageous. You will receive support from a ward manager, practice educator, and clinical matron in your role.

Detailed Job Responsibilities

- Develop, plan, and coordinate specialized treatment within the ward or department.

- Assess patients, plan, implement, and manage their care.

- Execute specialized nursing procedures.

Candidate Profile

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Registered General Nurse (level 1) with a degree and significant post-registration experience.
  • Experience supervising junior staff and students, and working towards becoming a Practice Supervisor or Assessor Supervisor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with multidisciplinary team members, demonstrating advanced communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to balance team leadership and clinical responsibilities.
  • Substantial experience in an acute medical setting.
  • Involvement in clinical audits, including coordination, evaluation, and service development.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Able to efficiently manage a complex and unpredictable caseload.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and risk management principles.
  • Experience leading meetings.

Desirable Criteria

  • Post-graduate experience and attendance at specialist courses.
  • Ability to deliver training sessions to patients and staff.
  • Qualification in Diabetes.
  • Leadership qualification.
  • Experience in change management and implementing service improvements.
