Position Overview

This role involves spearheading the creation, organization, and execution of the Speech and Language Therapy program aimed at Children and Young People experiencing Early Language Development Challenges and/or Speech Disorders. The focus will be on adhering to contemporary evidence and exemplary practices. Additionally, the position entails providing guidance to team members to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service to this demographic. Responsibilities also include overseeing projects and distributing tasks effectively among team members.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver specialized assessment, diagnosis, and treatment services for children and their families.
- Collaborate with a diverse array of professionals and external organizations to guarantee efficient and high-quality care for patients.
- Work in conjunction with community language facilitators to ensure equitable service delivery for populations with limited English proficiency.
- Flexibility in working hours is essential, which may include evenings and weekends to meet local demands.

Primary Duties

- Lead the development and implementation of the Speech and Language Therapy service for Children and Young People with Early Language Development Challenges and/or Speech Sound Disorders, ensuring alignment with current best practices.
- Provide advanced clinical expertise in managing a caseload of children and young individuals with intricate speech, language, and communication challenges, including those with Early Language and/or Speech Disorders.
- Formulate and execute personalized care plans that reflect the specialized nature of the interventions required to address individual needs.
- Develop and communicate effective strategies to enhance the child's communication skills, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and trained interpreters to overcome linguistic and cultural barriers.

- Offer leadership and mentorship to junior team members, including supervision, second opinions, and participation in clinical excellence networks.
- Take responsibility for ongoing professional development and learning, ensuring access to supervision and addressing both personal and service-related learning needs.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Successful completion of a recognized training program in Speech and Language Therapy (degree or equivalent).
  • Post-graduate qualification and experience at the master's level.
  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) records demonstrating experience with Early Language Development and/or Speech Disorders in children and young people.

Desirable

  • Membership in a relevant Clinical Excellence Network (CEN).
  • Master's Degree.

Professional Registration

Essential

  • Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
  • Health Professions Council - License to Practice.

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive knowledge of various disorders at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, along with their management relevant to the position.
  • Expertise in detailed assessment and diagnostic procedures, with established knowledge of appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Evidence of understanding Early Language and/or Speech Disorders in compliance with RCSLT guidelines.
  • Experience working with bilingual caseloads.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical governance, including quality, audit, and risk management.

Desirable

  • Awareness and/or experience in research and development.
  • Audit experience of personal and team practices.
  • Contributions to service and staff development.
  • Previous experience in a senior clinical role.
