Position Overview

The role involves delivering and overseeing specialized psychological evaluations and therapeutic interventions tailored for a primary care Intermediate psychological therapy service. The incumbent will actively contribute to the ongoing enhancement and application of evidence-based psychological assessments and treatments within the primary care intermediate therapy service, including offering expert guidance, consultation, support, and training to fellow staff members. Additionally, the role encompasses supervising therapists, participating in service advancements, and ensuring compliance with governance standards as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct comprehensive assessments for specialized psychological interventions and individual therapy, utilizing complex data from diverse sources for service users referred to the service.

2. Implement a variety of psychological interventions for individuals, caregivers, families, and groups across different teams.

3. Manage a therapy caseload, delivering evidence-based psychological therapies to service users in accordance with established targets.

4. Provide clinical supervision to therapists within the service, adhering to the Trust's supervision policy and IAPT guidelines.

5. Collaborate effectively with service users, families, and the multidisciplinary team.

6. Collect, organize, evaluate, and report information while maintaining precise clinical records for service users receiving psychological interventions.

7. Organize and deliver specialized psychological advice, guidance, consultation, and training to other professionals, directly contributing to clients' assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans.

8. Participate in risk assessment and management for individual service users, offering general advice to other professionals on risk assessment and management practices.

9. Communicate sensitively and skillfully with service users, caregivers, and relevant professionals regarding assessments, formulations, and treatment strategies.

About the Organization

Pennine Care NHS FT is committed to providing accessible psychological therapies through the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Programme. The service offers assessment and treatment for individuals referred through their GP or via self-referral, addressing common mental health issues. The team comprises a diverse range of professionals, including Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, Counsellors, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, Primary Care Mental Health Nurses, Psychologists, and Administrative staff, serving adults aged 16 and above from various cultural backgrounds.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology and registration with the Health Professions Council or BABCP/BACP/UKCP accredited CBT/therapist with additional training in modalities such as EMDR/DBT/CAT.
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering highly specialized psychological assessments and interventions within a mental health context.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary mental health services.
  • Previous experience providing clinical supervision.
  • Experience managing step 3 cases with significant complexity/chronicity.
  • Experience in offering clinical supervision to other psychological therapists.

Desirable:

  • Further qualifications and/or training in various therapy models/interventions.
  • Experience in teaching or training other qualified mental health staff or non-psychology personnel.
  • Experience in developing and conducting service-related research or audits.
  • Experience delivering psychological therapy in group formats (DBT, CBT, Schema Therapy, CFT).

Knowledge and Skills

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge of professional issues in psychology and psychological therapies.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and risk management policies.
  • Familiarity with contemporary legislation relevant to mental health and psychological service delivery.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of procedures that enhance and improve psychological services.
  • Expertise in the administration and interpretation of specialized psychological assessment tools.

Work-Related Circumstances

Essential:

  • Ability to transport equipment (including case files, self-help materials, audio-visual equipment) between office locations and other work settings.
  • Access to a means of mobility to travel across the Trust footprint as required by service needs.
