Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to join our team at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Community Learning Disability Nurse team, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of our Young People's Specialist Support Team service.

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a high level of expertise and experience in working with children and young people with severe learning disabilities and complex needs. You will work closely with our multi-agency team, comprising clinical psychology, learning disability nursing, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and support workers, to provide intensive support to a small number of children and young people.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assess, formulate, and intervene with children and young people with severe learning disabilities and complex needs, including autism and/or behaviour that challenges.
  • Develop and implement person-centred positive behaviour support plans to improve the quality of life for children and young people.
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers, and other professionals to provide comprehensive support and services.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to the care and support of children and young people with learning disabilities.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team meetings to discuss and plan care and support for children and young people.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Relevant health or social care qualification with current professional registration (e.g. R.N.L.D, BSC Hons in Learning Disability Nursing and Social work or equivalent relevant experience).
  • NMC registration.
  • Post-registration qualifications in related subjects (e.g. Positive Behavioural Support, Community Specialist Practitioner, Autism).
  • Completion of CYP IAPT LD.
Experience and Skills
  • Experience working with children and young people with learning disabilities and complex needs, including autism and/or behaviour that challenges, and their families in multi-agency settings.
  • Experience of using principles of positive behavioural support and developing PBS plans.
  • Experience of administration and organisation for caseload management while prioritising demands.
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team work.
  • Experience of consulting with other professionals.
  • Experience managing risk in children with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Understanding of Positive Behavioural Support Principles (PBSP).
  • Understanding of government legislation and key policy documents relevant to the role.
  • Working knowledge of SEND.
  • Understanding of the Transforming Care agenda.
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice and the implications for clinical practice.
  • Capacity to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly distressing difficulties and situations.
  • Knowledge and experience of working within a Safeguarding Framework.
