For over three decades, we have been passionately crafting and publishing exceptional video games across our various studios, founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley. However, Rebellion is not solely about gaming; we also operate our own film and motion capture studio, develop board games, publish literature, and through 2000AD, we bring to life comics and graphic novels, including the iconic Judge Dredd.

Position Overview: We are on the lookout for a driven and skilled Lead Animation Engineer to become a vital part of our team. Collaborating with our talented technical animators, you will contribute to a range of thrilling projects, including an intense battle royale game, and have the chance to work on unannounced titles, such as a dark sci-fi shooter and more. Our exciting new original IP, Atomfall, is set to launch in the near future.

The ideal candidate will support our animation team by creating engaging content and mentoring team members on exciting unannounced projects. Our dynamic and rapidly expanding art team seeks a passionate individual who can foster team growth and significantly impact our games.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation on tools, methodologies, training, and processes throughout the animation pipeline.
  • Provide insightful input during the character creation process, from initial concepts to final rigging, while identifying performance and functionality requirements.
  • Research and implement new technologies and innovations to enhance animation efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with code, design, art, and animation teams to deliver both high-performing and engaging gaming experiences.
  • Ensure the quality of work and implement improvements to align with technical constraints and artistic vision.
  • Act as a mentor and role model for your team, fostering an atmosphere of creativity and enthusiasm.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of anatomy and body mechanics.
  • Proficient in 3D software such as Maya, Motion Builder, and/or Blender, with a technical emphasis on rigging and skinning.
  • Experience in creating body, facial, and prop rigs.
  • In-depth knowledge of motion capture techniques.
  • Familiarity with scripting tools using MEL and Python.
  • Solid understanding of production pipelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of the video game development lifecycle.
  • Understanding of 3D mathematics (linear algebra, vector, and matrix math).
  • Experience in creating UI tools with Maya commands or QT/Pyside is advantageous.
  • Ability to develop tools using Python is a plus.
  • Experience with the Maya node editor and creating complex systems is beneficial.
  • Capability to create corrective joints and drive them, particularly with vectors, is a significant advantage.
