About the Role:

Kent is seeking a Manager of Onshore Pipeline Engineering Operations to oversee the creation of engineering deliverables for feasibility studies, conceptual designs, front-end engineering design (FEED), detailed designs, or engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects. This role will primarily focus on onshore activities, although having offshore or subsea experience may be advantageous for consultancy tasks. You will be part of a newly formed Pipelines Delivery team, collaborating closely with Kent's existing Subsea and Pipelines Centre of Excellence to successfully execute onshore and offshore pipeline initiatives.

This position is integral to our strategic growth plan aimed at enhancing our Front End and General Engineering capabilities in the UK. We are looking for a highly skilled individual for this pivotal engineering role, someone with the talent, enthusiasm, and drive to contribute to our exciting expansion efforts. The UK Engineering group will engage in a variety of stimulating and challenging projects in Low Carbon/Energy Transition (including CCUS, Green Hydrogen, Blue Hydrogen, Offshore Wind, Waste to X, and Emissions Reduction) while also responsibly advancing traditional international energy projects. Key qualities we seek include a hands-on approach, collaboration (including international teamwork), and a commitment to a long-term career within a high-performing and cohesive team. We operate under a hybrid working model, combining office and remote work to foster an effective team dynamic within Engineering and Consulting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify skill gaps and assist in the development and recruitment of the new delivery team to support growth objectives for the upcoming year.
  • Assume technical responsibility for all onshore pipeline engineering tasks, overseeing and directing the preparation of project deliverables. Depending on project size, delegate supervision and specific review tasks to qualified personnel.
  • Capable of resolving complex technical challenges and high-profile issues, with support from senior engineering personnel, while effectively communicating with clients and senior management.
  • Review the Invitation to Bid (ITB) documents during the proposal phase, prepare resource hour estimates, and contribute to the project execution plan.
  • Supervise, review, and validate pipeline activities, including philosophies, specifications, routing studies, mechanical design, material selection, corrosion protection, stress analysis, layouts, drawings, datasheets, and technical requisitions & bid evaluations. Identify and address discrepancies and deviations from the original proposal/contract by raising technical inquiries with projects/clients.
  • Define a clear scope of work and oversee the preparation of the Technical Document Register (TDR). Responsible for planning and scheduling pipeline engineering activities and resource allocation. Quantify the total number of engineering deliverables, resource-hour distribution, and other execution requirements. Provide regular project controls and reporting input to Project Management.
  • Support Procurement with long lead item inquiries: prepare technical requisitions, review vendor documentation, and provide technical bid evaluation support to ensure design compliance.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance on any quality concerns, ensuring adherence to Kent's ISO Quality procedures, Project Quality Plan, and Design Integrity processes. Coordinate internal and client audit requests and facilitate audit procedures for engineering systems within the department. Comply with other Kent accredited frameworks such as ISO.
  • Ensure the successful completion of specific scopes within the established schedule and budget constraints.
In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the employee may be required to undertake other ad-hoc tasks as directed by management. These tasks will align with the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization, allowing for flexibility in meeting the dynamic needs of the company.

Your Qualifications and Experience:

Education and Certification:
  • Master's Degree in Engineering (typically Mechanical or Civil), Chartered Status, and significant relevant experience in Engineering/Client organizations within the Oil and Gas sector.
  • Experience in consultancy, FEED, detailed design, and EPC projects.
  • Strong background in engineering/client organizations in the onshore oil and gas industry.
  • Understanding of the principles of onshore pipeline engineering, as well as regulatory frameworks, codes, and standards.
  • Experience in onshore pipeline routing, facilities design, safety assessments, construction methodologies, logistics planning, onshore crossing design, and cost estimation.
  • Experience in the design and analysis of CO2 and H2 onshore pipelines in the Low Carbon sector is considered a plus.
  • Additional offshore/subsea experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with safety and quality procedures.
Communication Skills:
  • Exceptional oral and written communication abilities.
Core Competencies:
  • Ability to schedule activities and prioritize work effectively.
  • Strong coordination, monitoring, and supervisory skills.
  • Eagerness to challenge existing practices, enhance technical methodologies, and build capabilities.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, reliable, and mature approach to work.
  • Attention to detail and a team-oriented mindset.
Health, Safety, Sustainability, Environment, and Quality (HSSEQ):

The employee is expected to adhere to the Health, Safety, Sustainability, Environment, and Quality regulations of the company, its clients, and the governing authorities.

We are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive community - a space where everyone can be themselves, thrive, and grow. From the outset, we provide a range of family-friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and employee networks to support staff from diverse backgrounds.

As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we welcome applications from all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities.

We are a disability-friendly employer and can make adjustments to support you in performing at your best during the recruitment process.
