About the Role:

Kent is seeking a Principal Civil Structural Engineer to lead and coordinate the development of engineering deliverables while providing project progress updates in line with the project schedule.

This role typically involves supervising a team of civil and structural engineers to meet all discipline-specific project requirements. Additionally, the engineer will engage in hands-on engineering tasks and manage specialized studies and reviews. A solid understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering design processes is essential. Collaboration with other disciplines is crucial to ensure design consistency. The engineer will assist the project management team in planning and identifying technical challenges that may hinder progress or affect project budgets. Support will also be provided to the Civil/Structural Group Manager in developing discipline engineers and ensuring technical excellence.

The Principal Civil Structural Engineer will report to the Civil Structural Group Manager and/or Project Manager, depending on the project's size and complexity.

The corporate reporting line will be to the respective Departmental/Group Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Align with Kent's core values, which inspire our success and guide our actions. The employee will embody these values, striving to be safe, ethical, innovative, responsive, quality-focused, and cost-conscious.
  • Serve as either a lead civil/structural engineer or a hands-on specialist on various project phases, including feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design, or EPC projects. May act as a subject matter expert in a specific discipline area. Proficiency in structural analysis software for onshore and offshore engineering structures is required.
  • Hold technical responsibility for all civil/structural engineering work within a project. Allocate, supervise, and direct the preparation of project deliverables. Depending on project size, delegate supervision and specific checking activities to qualified personnel. On certain projects, conduct complex civil or structural analyses for onshore or offshore structures and foundations using appropriate tools and engineering software.
  • Capable of independently resolving technically challenging and high-profile issues while effectively communicating with project engineers, management, clients, and senior leadership.
  • Conduct specialized activities or reviews of civil/structural engineering aspects based on high competency levels in civil/structural engineering (both onshore and offshore).
  • Oversee, review, and verify civil/structural activities.
  • Adhere to the Civil/Structural Design Manual and Kent Management System (KMS) Procedures.
  • Identify and address discrepancies from the original proposal/contract by raising technical queries and/or recognizing trends and changes within the management of change framework.
  • Provide construction and fabrication support as needed.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary engineering design reviews, offering necessary civil/structural input and support to resolve outstanding actions.
  • Review ITB documents submitted as proposals, identifying clear scopes of work, preparing and reviewing work-hour estimates, and contributing to project execution plans and schedules. Supervise the preparation of civil/structural Technical Design Reports (TDR).
  • Responsible for planning and scheduling civil/structural activities and identifying resource needs throughout the project. Collaborate with the civil/structural group manager for resource allocation.
  • Provide regular project updates and reports to project management and the civil/structural group manager.
  • Support procurement efforts, including inquiries for long lead items and subcontracts; prepare technical requisitions, review vendor documentation, and assist in technical bid evaluations to ensure compliance and appropriate vendor/subcontractor selection.
  • Ensure compatibility and compliance with client specifications, recommending cost-effective and value-added improvements within the scope of client requirements.
  • Consult with quality assurance on compliance issues related to Kent's ISO accredited Quality Management System (QMS) and project-specific procedures, guides, and standards. Coordinate internal and client audit requests.
  • Assist in employee performance development, establishing performance criteria, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and recommending training and development needs in consultation with the civil/structural group manager.
  • Support the civil/structural group manager in maintaining technical competence within the discipline and ensuring quality delivery on projects.
  • Assist the civil/structural group manager in the recruitment process as needed.

In addition to the responsibilities outlined, the employee may be required to undertake other ad-hoc tasks as directed by management, within the reasonable scope of their skills and capabilities. This provision allows for flexibility in meeting the organization's dynamic needs, ensuring efficient operational requirements.

All tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and professional development.

Your Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status with ICE, IStructE, or IMarEST.
  • Relevant experience in Engineering/Client organizations within the Onshore/Offshore Oil and Gas Industry and Low Carbon Energy Transition sector.
