About the Role:

Kent is seeking an Onshore Pipeline Engineering Lead responsible for overseeing the production of engineering deliverables on feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design, or EPC projects. This role will primarily focus on onshore activities; however, offshore/subsea experience may be advantageous for consultancy efforts. You will be part of a newly formed Pipelines Delivery team, collaborating closely with Kent's existing Subsea and Pipelines Centre of Excellence to execute onshore and offshore pipeline projects.

This position is part of a strategic initiative to enhance our Front End and General Engineering capabilities in the UK. We are looking for a highly skilled individual for this pivotal Engineering role, possessing the talent, enthusiasm, and drive to contribute to our exciting growth plans. The UK Engineering group will support a range of intriguing and challenging opportunities in Low Carbon/Energy Transition (CCUS, Green Hydrogen, Blue Hydrogen, Offshore Wind, Waste to X, Emissions Reduction) while also responsibly advancing traditional international energy projects. A hands-on approach, especially as we expand, along with collaboration (including international teamwork) and a commitment to a long-term career within a high-performing team, are essential qualities we seek. We offer a hybrid working model that combines office and remote work to foster an effective team dynamic within Engineering and Consulting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify capability gaps and assist in the development and recruitment of the new delivery team to support growth plans for the upcoming year.
  • Assume technical responsibility for all onshore pipeline engineering tasks, allocating, supervising, and directing the preparation of project deliverables. Depending on project size, delegate some supervision and specific checking activities to qualified personnel.
  • Formulate solutions and supervise technically challenging and/or high-profile issues, with support from Consultant Pipeline Engineer/Lead Pipeline Engineer or Project Engineering Manager, effectively communicating with Clients and Senior Management.
  • Review ITB (Invitation to Bid) documents during the proposal stage, prepare resource hour estimates, and contribute to the project execution plan.
  • Oversee, review, and verify pipeline activities, including: Philosophies, Specifications, Routing Studies, Mechanical Design, Material Selection, Corrosion Protection, Stress Analysis, Layouts, Drawings, Datasheets, and Technical Requisitions & Bid Evaluations. Identify and resolve discrepancies and divergences from the original proposal/contract by raising technical queries with projects/clients.
  • Define a clear scope of work and supervise the preparation of the Technical Document Register (TDR). Responsible for planning/scheduling pipeline engineering activities and personnel resources. Quantify the total number of engineering deliverables, resource-hour allocation, and format of delivery, along with other execution requirements. Provide regular project controls/reporting input to Project Management.
  • Support Procurement, including long lead items inquiries: prepare Technical Requisitions, review vendor documentation, and provide Technical Bid Evaluation support to ensure design compliance.
  • Consult with Quality Assurance on any quality issues, ensuring adherence to Kent's ISO Quality procedures, Project Quality Plan, and Design Integrity processes. Coordinate internal and client audit requests and facilitate audit procedures of engineering systems within the department, complying with other Kent accredited frameworks such as ISO.
  • Ensure the successful completion of specific scopes on schedule and within resource hour and budget estimates.
In addition to the responsibilities listed, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. This provision allows for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and professional development.

Your Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering (typically Mechanical or Civil), Chartered Status, and significant related experience in Engineering/Client organizations within the Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Exposure to Consultancy, FEED/Detailed Design, and EPC projects.
  • Strong experience working for engineering/client organizations in the onshore oil and gas sector.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of onshore pipeline engineering, regulatory frameworks, codes, and standards.
  • Experience in onshore pipeline routing, facilities design, safety assessments, construction methodology, logistics planning, onshore crossing design, and cost estimates.
  • Experience in the design and analysis of CO2 and H2 onshore pipelines in the Low Carbon sector is advantageous.
  • Additional Offshore/Subsea experience is considered beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Safety and Quality procedures.
Communication:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Behavior/Core Competencies:
  • Activity scheduling and disciplined work priorities.
  • Strong coordination, monitoring, and supervisory skills.
  • Enthusiasm to challenge existing practices, enhance technical methodologies, and build capability.

  • Team player.
