Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time
Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Senior Research Associate to contribute to the Environmental Fluid Mechanics research group within the Department of Engineering Science.

This role involves spearheading a team focused on the design and evaluation of tidal stream turbines and associated platform concepts aimed at renewable energy production.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the Supergen ORE Hub Tidal Turbine Benchmarking project, which entails testing a sophisticated turbine in various wave and current conditions.
  • Collaborating on the EPSRC-funded CoTide programme to innovate and assess new designs for tidal energy systems.
  • Overseeing the design and construction of laboratory turbines, ensuring their successful manufacture and assembly.
  • Managing turbine testing initiatives at both Oxford and external research facilities, along with conducting related data analysis.
  • Coordinating the usage of the group's experimental facilities and ensuring their effective operation.

You will be part of a large collaborative team working on wind and tidal energy projects, contributing to the broader objectives of the Supergen ORE Hub.

As a member of the CoTide project team, you will engage with leading institutions including the Universities of Oxford, Edinburgh, Strathclyde, and Sheffield. This initiative comprises approximately 35 researchers and academics focused on developing comprehensive models that encompass all facets of tidal stream turbine design, aimed at reducing costs and fostering innovation within the tidal stream sector.

To qualify for this position, you should hold a relevant PhD in Engineering or a related field, possess substantial experience in experimental fluid mechanics, and demonstrate the capability to manage research projects, including budgeting. Strong communication skills are essential.

Applications must be submitted online and should include a CV and a supporting statement detailing your research interests and how you meet the selection criteria, along with the contact information for three referees.

The Department is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in Science, Engineering, and Technology.
