We are looking for a dedicated Senior Research Associate to become a vital part of the Environmental Fluid Mechanics research team within the Department of Engineering Science.
This role is a fixed-term position with funding from the EPSRC, aimed at advancing research in renewable energy generation.
The successful candidate will spearhead a team focused on the design and evaluation of tidal stream turbines and associated platform innovations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Supergen ORE Hub Tidal Turbine Benchmarking project, which involves testing a sophisticated turbine in various aquatic conditions.
- Contributing to the EPSRC-funded CoTide initiative, which aims to develop and assess cutting-edge designs for tidal energy systems.
- Overseeing the design and production of laboratory turbines, ensuring their assembly and operational readiness.
- Managing turbine testing campaigns both at the university and at external testing facilities, along with conducting thorough data analysis.
- Coordinating the use of the group's experimental facilities and ensuring their effective operation.
The role involves collaboration with a diverse team of researchers engaged in wind and tidal energy projects, as well as participation in the CoTide project, which includes partnerships with leading academic institutions.
Our team of approximately 35 researchers and academics is committed to developing comprehensive models that encompass all facets of tidal stream turbine design, aimed at minimizing costs and fostering innovation within the tidal stream sector.
Ideal candidates should hold a relevant PhD in Engineering or a related field, possess substantial experience in experimental fluid mechanics, demonstrate the capability to manage research projects and budgets, and exhibit strong communication skills.
