Glasgow, Glasgow City, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide comprehensive acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health care services to a population exceeding 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million when considering our regional and national services.

As part of our commitment to employee well-being, NHS Scotland is transitioning to a reduced full-time working week of 37 hours, effective from 1 April 2024, with no corresponding change in pay. This adjustment will also apply on a pro-rata basis for part-time staff. Please note that some service areas may not immediately implement this change, and temporary adjustments to working hours may be required until new rosters are established.

The role involves a standard shift pattern of Monday to Friday.

This position is a fixed-term contract for a duration of 12 months.

Role Overview: The Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist will be tasked with delivering a specialized Clinical Psychology service to older adults referred through the multi-disciplinary East Dunbartonshire Older People's Mental Health Service. The successful candidate will conduct highly specialized psychological assessments and therapies while providing guidance and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and caregivers, operating autonomously within professional guidelines and the overarching policies of the team.

Qualifications and Experience: Candidates should possess a background in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, with substantial knowledge and experience gained from working with diverse client groups across various care settings. Experience in specialist Older People's Mental Health Services is preferred. The role requires demonstrated clinical leadership capabilities within multi-disciplinary or multi-agency contexts, as well as experience in providing consultation and supervision regarding psychological care.

The successful candidate will join the Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) Older People's Psychology Service, which offers a highly specialized service to older adults within the GG&C board area. The mental health services include participation in Community Mental Health Teams for Older People, an Acute Hospital Liaison Clinical Psychology Service, a Young Onset Dementia Service, and a Care Home Liaison Psychology Service.

Professional Development: The position necessitates post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), accredited by the BPS or HCPC. This includes expertise in models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, multiple psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology. Current registration with the HCPC is essential. The post holder may be required to provide clinical psychology input across various service areas as needed.

Inclusivity Commitment: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde encourages applications from all community sectors. We foster a culture of inclusion and take pride in our diverse workforce.

By signing the Armed Forces Covenant, NHSGGC demonstrates its commitment to being a Forces Friendly Employer, supporting applications from the Armed Forces Community and recognizing military skills and experience during the recruitment process.
