Glasgow, Glasgow City, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is recognized as one of the largest healthcare providers in the UK, employing approximately 40,000 professionals across various clinical and non-clinical roles. Our services encompass acute hospital care, primary healthcare, community support, and mental health services, catering to a population exceeding 1.15 million, and extending to 2.2 million when considering our regional and national services.

As part of our commitment to enhancing work-life balance, NHS Scotland is transitioning to a reduced full-time working week of 37 hours, effective from April 2024, without any alteration in salary. This change will also apply proportionately to part-time employees. It is important to note that some service areas may require a temporary adjustment, necessitating up to an additional 30 minutes of work per week until new schedules are implemented. For any inquiries regarding this transition, please reach out to the Recruiting Board.

The working schedule is set from Monday to Friday.

This position is a fixed-term role lasting 12 months.

Role Overview: The Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist will deliver a specialized Clinical Psychology service to older adults referred through the multi-disciplinary East Dunbartonshire Older People's Mental Health Service. The successful candidate will conduct highly specialized psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions while providing guidance and consultation on psychological care to colleagues and non-professional caregivers, operating independently within established professional guidelines and team policies.

Qualifications and Experience: Candidates should possess a background in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, with experience working with diverse client groups across various care settings, particularly in specialist Older People's Mental Health Services. Experience in clinical leadership roles within multi-disciplinary or multi-agency frameworks, along with the ability to offer consultation and supervision on psychological care, is essential. Membership in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) Older People's Psychology Service is required, which offers specialized services to older adults within the GG&C board area.

The department encompasses several key services, including an Acute Hospital Liaison Clinical Psychology Service for older adults in hospital settings, a Young Onset Dementia Service, a Care Home Liaison Psychology Service, and the OPTIMAL Team, which focuses on expanding access to evidence-based psychological interventions across GG&C. The successful candidate will be part of this Psychology Department, providing services to older adults referred by colleagues in Older People's Services.

Professional Leadership: Operational management and professional leadership are coordinated through the Older People's Psychology Service and the Psychology Directorate. Candidates must have post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), accredited by the BPS or HCPC, covering models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, multiple psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology. Current registration with the HCPC is mandatory. The post holder may be required to provide clinical psychology services across various locations as needed.

Diversity and Inclusion: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde actively encourages applications from all community sectors. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive culture and take pride in our diverse workforce.
