As part of our commitment to enhancing work-life balance, NHS Scotland is transitioning to a reduced full-time working week of 37 hours, effective from April 2024, with no alteration in salary. This change will also apply proportionately to part-time staff. Please note that some service areas may require temporary adjustments, allowing for up to an additional 30 minutes of work per week until new schedules are implemented.

The working schedule for this position is Monday to Friday.

This role is a fixed-term position lasting 12 months.

Position Overview: The Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist will oversee the provision of a specialized Clinical Psychology service tailored for older adults referred through the multi-disciplinary East Dunbartonshire Older People's Mental Health Service. The successful candidate will deliver expert psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions while providing guidance and consultation on psychological care to colleagues and non-professional caregivers, operating independently within established professional standards and team protocols.

The ideal candidate will possess a background in Clinical/Counselling Psychology, with experience across various client demographics and clinical severities in diverse care environments, preferably within specialized Older People's Mental Health Services. Experience in clinical leadership roles within multi-disciplinary or multi-agency frameworks, along with the ability to offer consultation and supervision regarding psychological care, is essential.

As a member of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) Older People's Psychology Service, you will contribute to a highly specialized service dedicated to older adults within the GG&C board area. The mental health component of this service is integrated into Community Mental Health Teams for Older People throughout the health board.

The department also encompasses an Acute Hospital Liaison Clinical Psychology Service for older adults in hospital settings, a Young Onset Dementia Service, a Care Home Liaison Psychology Service in Glasgow HSCP, the OPTIMAL Team focused on expanding access to evidence-based psychological interventions, and an In-patient Older People's Psychology Team. You will be part of this Psychology Department, delivering services to older adults referred by colleagues in Older People's Services in East Dunbartonshire HSCP.

Professional leadership and operational management are provided through the Older People's Psychology Service and the Psychology Directorate. A post-graduate doctoral degree in clinical or counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) accredited by the BPS or HCPC is required. This includes comprehensive training in psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, multiple psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology. Current registration with the HCPC is mandatory. The post holder may be required to deliver clinical psychology services across various locations as necessary.
