Role Overview

We are looking for a qualified and seasoned Family Assessment Team Leader to join our dedicated team of Social Workers. Your leadership will be crucial in driving the service forward and ensuring that our team excels in their roles. You will manage team performance and cultivate a culture of ongoing learning and reflective practice.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Conducting assessments and care planning for children in need, including those requiring protection and involved in legal processes.
  • Engaging directly with children and families to achieve optimal safety and well-being outcomes.
  • Facilitating the achievement of permanence for looked after children and care leavers through comprehensive assessment and planning.
  • Reporting to the Service Manager and Head of Service regarding team performance.
  • Overseeing the team's duty system and daily operational tasks within the Family Assessment Team.
  • Ensuring compliance with council policies, government regulations, and departmental procedures in service delivery.
  • Leading initiatives to implement structural, policy, and procedural changes.
  • Maintaining effective communication with senior management regarding service delivery and any arising issues.
  • Utilizing data effectively to manage service performance and delivery.
  • Being accountable for achieving the team's key performance targets.
  • Assisting the Service Manager with budget management and resource allocation.
  • Fostering strong working relationships with agency partners and other relevant local authority services.

The role emphasizes a strengths-based approach, incorporating systemic ideas to empower service users, build on individual strengths, and develop strategies for risk management.

Essential Qualifications

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Comprehensive understanding of national policies and strategies affecting children's social care.
  • Proven ability to enhance social work practice through effective performance management.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading operational change successfully.
  • Experience managing high-risk and complex cases to ensure positive safeguarding outcomes.
  • Background in supervising childcare social workers with a track record of positive results.
